5 Birthday Gift Ideas Under 5 Dollars

Great gifts under $5 for Christmas, birthdays or any other special occasion can be found everywhere if you keep an eye out while doing your holiday shopping. Santa Claus isn’t the only one who hands out gifts; it’s always a good time to shop for that special someone, or to buy a gift for your co-workers if you can get suitable gifts at bargain prices.Go shopping online or at local flea markets and dollar stores to buy cheap gifts to put away for later. Christmas, birthday and Easter cards are other items you can shop ahead for. Here are five inexpensive gift ideas under $5 to get started.

Healthy Food Gift Basket

Gifts are often difficult to buy for the health conscious person. Fill a little cane basket with bags of lentils, red, black, and white dried beans, split green peas and some herbal tea. Lay a cinnamon stick, a fresh lime or a twig of rosemary on top for decoration. If you already have a cane basket laying around, five dollars will adequately cover the cost of the goods.

Scented Candles $1 Each

Most discount stores have a good variety of small, scented candles, either in glass jars or free standing. I recently purchased some in jars with lids for $1 each, and have them set in clusters of three in various rooms around the house. Grab some in different scents and pick up a pretty card and ribbon to go with it. Choose three candles all in the same scent, or mix them up so your friend has a choice each time she relaxes with some tea. You can never go wrong giving a candle as a gift, and they’re suitable for any special occasion.

Planners and Diaries

Christmas time is the best time to shop for planners and diaries. These gifts don’t make as much sense if given half way through the year, however, anywhere from mid-year onwards you will be able to find decent planners for the upcoming new year calendar. By purchasing these presents in advance, you can do your Christmas shopping six months ahead of time. You can also give them to friends co-workers and family whose birthday happens to closer to Christmas.

Plants and Flowers

Plants are a terrific gift idea. Giving the gift of a plant or flowering plant is so much nicer than a bunch of flowers. Once the plant has enjoyed some time indoors set proudly on your coffee table or bookcase, transfer it to the garden to enjoy again next year. Chrysanthemums are always a good choice this time of year. Many still have beautiful dense blooms, and they are hardy garden plants to dig up and separate to create more at later date. Potted bulbs such as a single Tulip in a terracotta colored plastic pot also make a wonderful, green gift idea.

Best Seller DVDs and Books

Books and DVDs always make good gifts. Most large retail stores have huge bins of DVDs for $5 and under. Many of them are classic TV shows that are always worth watching again from time to time. You will also find some awesome movie titles that you know your friend meant to see but couldn’t find the time to do it. You can never go wrong giving the gift of a book. Wrap one up with another gift, a DVD perhaps, or as a set of three or four bundled together with some pretty ribbons and a card.
